• diabetes⁠
• stroke⁠

• brain or spinal cord infection or injury⁠

When the nerves responsible for bladder enervation are damaged, it can lead to a condition called neurogenic bladder, which affects millions of Americans. ⁠

❗Neurogenic bladder can take many forms, but it ultimately leads to a lack of bladder or sphincter control.⁠
 ⁠
There are other types of nerve damage that can lead to pelvic floor disorders ➡️ for example, injury or irritation of nerves in the vulvar region can lead to a condition called vulvodynia, which causes long-lasting pain, irritation, and burning around the opening of the vagina. ⁠

Nerve damage to the pudendal nerve, which is the main nerve of the perineum, can lead to pudendal neuralgia. This is a rare condition that leads to pain and discomfort in the pelvis or genitals. ⁠

And patients with spinal cord injuries may struggle with both bladder and bowel control.⁠
