Richard S. Bercik, MD, is an expert on such female pelvic floor disorders as urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. Approximately 20 million American women experience loss of bladder control, while about 3 million women will have organ prolapse. “We have the ability to markedly improve a patient's quality of life and to help her return to normal function,” Dr. Bercik says.
Dr. Bercik treats patients with such conditions as prolapse, overactive bladder, stress urinary incontinence and accidental bowel leakage. He focuses his clinical research on advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery, pelvic floor reconstruction, vaginal hysterectomy for the enlarged/fibroid uterus and vaginal fistulae.
He is an Associate Professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences, and of urology at Yale School of Medicine. In addition to seeing patients, he lectures and works internationally to provide minimally invasive approaches for stress urinary incontinence and vaginal repair surgery.
