I grew up in central New York State. I obtained a Bachelor of Science from the State University of New York at Albany with a biology major and chemistry minor. I then obtained a Doctor of Medicine from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine where I graduated with Honors. I was selected by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and completed an Internship at University Hospital Syracuse Health Science Center in New York. I then went on to residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston Texas. There I was recognized for outstanding teaching, academic performance, surgical skills, and leadership.
After completing residency I went into the United States Air Force where I served as a staff Obstetrician and Gynecologist and was promoted to the rank of Major. While in the Air Force I was certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. After serving in the Air Force I returned to Houston.
As one of only two Board Certified Obstetrician-Gynecologists in the country also certified in sexual health through AASECT, I founded The Center for Women’s Sexual Health in the Texas Medical Center. At the only center on the Gulf Coast devoted to the research and treatment for women’s sexual health and pelvic pain, I helped countless women and couples with these devastating health care issues. I have published and presented my research at various national medical meetings and in the medical literature.
To further my knowledge and expertise in pelvic health I then joined the Scott Department of Urology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston for fellowship training in female urology and voiding dysfunction. Under Dr. Rodney Appell, a Urologist, a pioneer and a world authority in this field, I studied and gained unique skills and perspectives few Gynecologists are afforded in their careers. After the untimely passing of Dr. Appell, I continued my training at Vanguard Urologic Institute in Houston and was asked to head the Rodney A. Appell, MD Center for Continence and Pelvic Health. After success in this leadership role at Vanguard Urologic Institute, I moved to Park Plaza Hospital to head the Pelvic Health Center there.
In 2013 I became Board Certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, and I maintain my Board Certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as my certification in sexual health. I founded Greater Houston Urogyn in May of 2015. My referral based practice focuses on women’s pelvic health issues including urinary continence and bladder function, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain and sexual health. I have recently implemented the MonaLisa Touch™ and Icon™ laser systems to complement my expertise in pelvic health giving women expanded options to look and feel their best with safe and effective in office procedures. I continue to educate medical students, residents, and colleagues. I have been recognized as one of Houston’s top doctors and have been featured on multiple news and morning shows.
