Matthew A. Barker, M.D.

Matthew A. Barker, MD is a nationally recognized urogynecologist with Avera Medical Group Urogynecology.  He is an academic Professor in the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Internal Medicine, and Neurosciences at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine.  A native of Sioux Falls, Dr. Barker attended medical school at the University of South Dakota.  He did his residency in obstetrics & gynecology at the University of Wisconsin - Madison and his fellowship in urogynecology in Cincinnati, OH.  Dr. Barker returned home after his training to establish the first clinic in the region solely focused on the management and treatment of pelvic floor disorders in women.  Dr. Barker has developed and led courses in urogynecology, specifically focused on the education and training of advanced practice providers to expand access to care and services for women suffering from incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.  He currently serves as the chair for the American Urogynecologic Society Advanced Practice Provider Committee.  He has incorporated physician assistants, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, and advanced nurse navigators into his urogynecology practice with Avera Medical Group.  Team Urogyn, as they are known within Avera, is recognized within the system for their great patient service, clinical efficiency, and excellent care and clinical outcomes.
